Day Six - Blog Post by Grace Lockwood
Day 6-Grace Lockwood
With a total of 6 hours of sleep, Grace Dymski, Gabrielle, and
myself awoke to freezing cold air and a long day ahead. We set out on a mission to cook breakfast for
the entire school. We were expecting to
have a fun baking day, getting to stand in front of the toasty oven, but it
turns out we were wrong. Instead, we
observed the intriguing practice of making porridge. Although not baking was a disappointment, Lydia
(the cook) was wonderful to talk to and kept our morning lively. We were able serve the children their
breakfast and even got to try some ourselves (Not great but it warms your
stomach). We then met up with the well-rested others and did our morning
prayer. Splitting up we all headed to different classes, some as teachers and
some as assistant teachers. I was with the crazy second and third graders and “tee-cha
Kimbaly”. Although it was hard to be productive, spending time with the kids
was worth it. Later in the afternoon, we had a fun game of keep away and my
team decided that our name would be the superhero’s, each of us taking the name
of a different super hero (this made it much easier to pronounce then their African
names). We then played a very aggressive game of steal the bacon, which ended
almost every round with a pile of students trying to get the ball. Shortly
after, we had a lesson on Joshua where we fell down as soon as the 7th
grade students blew their party horns. Then we went home and made dinner and
showered. Overall a very productive day. Peace out, see you soon!
Porridge does only warm your belly! Nice job, Grace.
