Day 11 – Gabrielle Shook

Tuesday August 1st Day 11 in South Africa and I have found that every day we are together as a team and as teachers at Aroura we are growing closer together. Whether we are preparing food to eat or playing with the kids we are always laughing and joyful. Even with waking up early every day the passion and love we have for the kids and each other always keeps the fire in our souls. Today was a very blessed day as teacher Charmaine was back after being sick on Monday. Justin and Jared woke up at “way to early” (5:00 AM) to prepare breakfast, bread and veggies for the kids. We arrived at the school and started our morning with devotions and prayers. A group of students taught Natural Science for 4th, 5th 6th and 7th from the morning to the afternoon. After the classes the students have time to be able to work on their homework. Once their homework is complete, the students change from their uniforms into their play time clothing. Once all the students are changed there is a time of planned games. Then we transition into a Bible story time. Today’s story was Gideon, his story was focused on the weekly idea of Faith. We have a little more time to spend with the kids before going home to shower and eat. Today we enjoyed Mrs. Steiner’s wonderful dinner of pasta and salad. Thanks to the leaders we have been eating very well. The night concludes with a time of reflection about the day. It’s a time to discuss what has happened throughout the day and discuss what we are going to do for the next day. Through the silly and the serious, God is bringing us together to be his hands and feet and to give us friends we can treasure forever. And the memories we are creating won’t be the last as we have a few more days before coming home and telling our family and friends of our adventures. Till then thank you for your prayers and support from those who are at home. We love and miss you all.
